Increase in revenue of mobilе games in Russia

The volume of the Russian market of online games in 2015 was 51.9 billion rubles, which is 2% more than the previous year. According to Mail.Ru Group experts, the main revenue growth was recorded in the segment of mobile games: + 20% p.a. The revenue of  development of mobile online games exceeded 10 billion rubles.

The majority of online players still spend their time mostly in multiplayer games (MMO). This is the third year in a row that the proportion is maintained at approximately the same level – 55-56%. The market volume of MMO-games in 2015 amounted to 29 billion rubles, that’s 4% higher than in 2014.

The mobile games market in Russia continues to win in comparison to the social games. Now the mobile games own 1/5 of the market while the social games have a bit less than 24%.  In monetary terms, the mobile games segment has grown by 20% in 2015, reaching 10.6 billion rubles.

Vasily Maguryan, Head of IT-Territory, in the Mail.Ru Group studio says: “2015 was not an easy year for the industry: few players left the market, and as a result the proportion of social games decreased. In the MMO segment the situation is more stable and there are a few interesting new projects, such as: Armored Warfare: Armata project, Skyforge, Black Desert, Heroes the Storm, Destiny. The most interesting trend shows us mobile games that are almost as equally big in volume as the social games”.

According to the final audited accounts of Mail.Ru Group, the company’s revenue from MMO-games grew by 6.3% in 2015; while in the second half of 2015 the revenues increased by 10.9% compared to the same period last year. In addition to the MMO-games company is actively developing the mobile direction: at the end of 2015 – beginning of 2016 Evolution: Heroes of Utopia and Juggernaut Wars were launched. In June 2016 the company announced the launch of a new direction of experimental game development, which will create and launch online and offline games for the Russian and foreign markets.
